Common questions

I closed the Notes Manager. How do I get it back?

Closing the Notes Manager hides it, and ContextNotes keeps running with the rail. Select the ContextNotes icon in the notification area next to the clock (you may need to open the ^ overflow) and choose Open Notes Manager.

How do I quit ContextNotes completely?

Use the same notification-area icon and choose Quit ContextNotes. ContextNotes saves your notes before it exits.

I can't find a note on the rail

The rail only shows notes that are set to Everywhere or attached to the app you're using, and it doesn't show archived notes or notes in Trash. Open the Notes Manager and look in All Notes, Archive or Trash. Search covers the view you have selected.

Where are my notes stored?

In a SQLite database in ContextNotes' private app data in your Windows user profile. Uninstalling ContextNotes can remove the notes stored on your PC. Keep an independent backup: a backup file saved outside ContextNotes, such as in your Documents folder or on another drive. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How do I back up or move my notes?

Open Settings → Data and backups. Back up notes saves a .cnbackup file to a folder you choose, and you can turn on automatic backups to a folder you choose. To move to another PC, copy the backup file across. Restore backup replaces your current notes with a backup. It first saves a separate safety backup of what you have, then quits ContextNotes; reopen it afterwards, and choose your automatic-backup folder again if you use one. Backups aren't encrypted, so keep them private.
