Terms of Service
Effective 24 October 2026 · Last updated 24 October 2026
In short
- ContextNotes is Windows 11 sticky-notes software. ContextNotes is a software brand operated by an independent developer based in Pakistan.
- A license is a one-time purchase that lets you use the edition you bought, ContextNotes 1, for personal and commercial purposes, on one active PC at a time, with no expiry.
- ContextNotes is sold through Paddle on this website and through the Microsoft Store. Purchases made through the Microsoft Store follow Microsoft's applicable purchase, billing and refund terms. Purchases made through Paddle follow Paddle's terms.
- Your notes are stored only on your PC. There's no cloud backup, so keeping backups is up to you.
- Purchases aren't open yet. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory consumer rights.
1. About these terms
These terms cover the ContextNotes website at getcontextnotes.app and the ContextNotes desktop software for Windows. ContextNotes is a software brand operated by an independent developer based in Pakistan ("ContextNotes", "we", "us"). ContextNotes develops and offers the software and this website. You can reach us at support@getcontextnotes.app.
When you buy a license:
- through Paddle on this website, your purchase contract is with Paddle.com, our online reseller and merchant of record, under the Paddle Buyer Terms
- through the Microsoft Store, your purchase is made with Microsoft under Microsoft's applicable purchase, billing and refund terms
- either way, your use of the software is governed by the software license in section 4 of these terms
By using the website, installing ContextNotes or buying a license, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use ContextNotes.
2. Availability
ContextNotes is in development for Windows 11 x64, and purchases aren't open yet. Until checkout opens on the Pricing page, no payment is taken, and anyone else asking you to pay for ContextNotes isn't authorized by us. Features and limitations are described on this website as accurately as we can; we may change the website, the planned release or the product before launch.
3. Buying ContextNotes
ContextNotes is sold through Paddle on this website and through the Microsoft Store. Purchases made through the Microsoft Store follow Microsoft's applicable purchase, billing and refund terms. Purchases made through Paddle follow Paddle's terms. The points below describe purchases through Paddle.
- Merchant of record. Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the merchant of record for all ContextNotes orders: it sells the license to you, processes payment, calculates and collects applicable taxes, issues receipts and invoices, and handles refunds and payment questions.
- Price. The base price is US$4.99. Paddle may show a local-currency price and applicable taxes at checkout. The total is shown before you pay.
- One-time payment. A license is a single payment. It isn't a subscription and it doesn't renew automatically.
- Delivery. After Paddle confirms payment, we send a secure, single-use link to your purchase email. It lets you get your license key and the download, and manage your license. If delivery fails, contact us and we'll help.
- Refunds. Refund requests for ContextNotes may be submitted within 10 calendar days of the original purchase date. After 10 days, ordinary discretionary refund requests are generally declined, except where consumer law requires otherwise or Paddle approves a refund under its policies. See the Refund Policy.
4. Software license
When you buy ContextNotes, and for as long as you comply with these terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the purchased edition of ContextNotes for personal and commercial purposes, on one active PC at a time, subject to the following.
Edition and lifetime access
Your license covers the edition you bought, ContextNotes 1. It doesn't expire and doesn't need renewing. Lifetime access applies to the edition you buy. Updates released for that edition may be provided without additional charge. Future major versions may require a separate purchase. We don't promise a schedule, a minimum period of updates, or unlimited future upgrades.
Devices and activation
- You may have one active installation at a time, on a PC running Windows 11 x64, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
- Activating a license needs an internet connection once. ContextNotes sends your license key and a randomly generated installation identifier to our licensing service, as described in the Privacy Policy.
- After activation, ContextNotes works offline indefinitely. It doesn't make periodic online license checks.
- To move your license to another PC, or after reinstalling, deactivate the old installation in Manage license and activate again. If you can't deactivate an old PC, for example because it was lost, contact us and we'll help.
- These activation steps apply to licenses bought through Paddle. For licenses bought through the Microsoft Store, installation and licensing are also subject to Microsoft's applicable terms.
Restrictions
Unless the law allows it despite this restriction, you may not:
- share, publish, sell, rent, lend or sublicense your license key or the software
- use one license on more PCs at the same time than it allows
- circumvent, disable or tamper with license activation
- copy, modify, decompile or reverse-engineer the software, except where applicable law expressly permits it
- remove copyright or license notices, or redistribute the software
Refunds and chargebacks
If a purchase is fully refunded, or the payment is reversed through a chargeback, the license is revoked. It can no longer be activated, reactivated or moved, and you must stop using ContextNotes with that license. A copy that is already activated and stays offline can't be remotely disabled, but that doesn't give a right to keep using it.
Access to your notes without a valid license
If activation is missing, invalid or revoked, ContextNotes still lets you open, read and copy your existing notes and back them up. Creating and editing notes needs an active license.
Ending the license
We may end your license if you seriously breach these terms, for example by sharing or reselling license keys, where applicable law allows. Ending a license never deletes the notes stored on your PC.
5. Your notes and data
- Your notes are stored in a local database on your PC. ContextNotes doesn't upload them, and there's no cloud backup or sync between devices.
- You're responsible for backing up your notes. ContextNotes includes manual backups and automatic backups to a folder you choose, plus Restore. Backups aren't encrypted, so keep them private.
- Uninstalling ContextNotes can remove the notes stored on your PC. Keep an independent backup: a backup file saved outside ContextNotes, such as in your Documents folder or on another drive.
- How we handle personal information is described in the Privacy Policy.
6. The website and demo
You may browse this website and use the interactive demo for personal, non-commercial purposes. The demo is a browser simulation with sample notes, not the app. Please don't misuse the website: don't attempt to break or overload it, gain unauthorized access, or use it for anything unlawful. The website links to third-party sites, such as Paddle's; their content and practices are their own.
7. Ownership
ContextNotes, its software, website, name, logo and content belong to us and are protected by intellectual property laws. A license gives you a right to use the software, not ownership of it. Your notes belong to you. Third-party components are used under their own licenses, listed on the Open-source licenses page. Windows is a trademark of the Microsoft group of companies; other names belong to their owners.
8. Support, updates and compatibility
We provide support by email at support@getcontextnotes.app and aim to reply as soon as we reasonably can, but we don't guarantee response times. ContextNotes is built for Windows 11 x64. Future Windows updates, other software or unusual configurations could affect how it works; we'll try to address compatibility problems in updates but can't guarantee it.
9. Warranty
We make ContextNotes with care, and it should work as described on this website. Apart from that, and to the extent the law allows, the software and website are provided "as is", without other warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. This doesn't affect warranties or guarantees you have by law that can't be excluded.
10. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data that a reasonable backup would have prevented, and our total liability to you relating to ContextNotes is limited to the amount you paid for your license. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
11. Your consumer rights
If you're a consumer, you have rights under the laws of the country where you live that these terms can't take away, including rights about faulty or misdescribed digital content and, in some countries, a right to withdraw from a purchase. Nothing in these terms or in our Refund Policy limits those rights.
12. Disputes and governing law
If you have a problem, please email us first; most issues can be solved quickly. Questions about payments, receipts and refunds are handled by Paddle under its Buyer Terms for Paddle purchases, and by Microsoft for Microsoft Store purchases. If you're a consumer, the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live continue to apply to you, and you can bring a claim in the courts where you live where the law allows.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when purchases open or the product changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. Changes don't take away rights under a license you already bought.
